What is Zoom In-Office Teeth Whitening?
Zoom is a professional dental bleaching process that is used to lighten discoloration and staining on dentin and enamel. Tooth discoloration can happen for a variety of reasons, such as whether a patient drinks a lot of coffee, soda, red wine, or tea, and possibly from smoking or aging.
How Does Zoom Teeth Whitening Work?
The Westwood Dental Group uses the Zoom in-office tooth whitening procedure and the Zoom Advanced Power Chairside Lamp to activate the 25 percent hydrogen peroxide whitening. As the hydrogen peroxide is broken down, oxygen enters the enamel and dentin to bleach the stained substances, dissolving any unwanted color while leaving the structure of the tooth unchanged.
The entire procedure from start to finish takes less than an hour to complete. The first thing our dental team will do is cover the lips and gums so that only your teeth are exposed. This is a protective measure to ensure that none of the bleaching solution gets on your gums.
We’ll then apply a hydrogen peroxide whitening gel before applying the Zoom light. The light works hard to penetrate through the teeth to get rid of any unwanted stains or discoloration. This takes about 15 minutes, then the gel is removed and repeated three times. Immediately afterward, a sensitivity-reducing fluoride paste-gel is applied to the teeth.
Aftercare
After you’ve had your teeth professionally whitened by our team, we ask that you stay away from highly pigmented foods such as beets, pasta sauce, or coffee. Additionally, avoid smoking cigarettes for the first 48 hours.
